Philip Asher is currently working as a Primary School teacher in South West Cambridgeshire and he continues to maintain a schedule of performances and ad-hoc work with local churches and choirs. He was, until recently, the Director of Music at St George’s Church, Stockport, where he worked with the two choirs to provide for the weekly needs of this busy parish church. His recent move to Cambridge necessitated giving up this post. He is in demand as an accompanist to choral societies and chamber choirs, and his repertoire is extensive. He is a recent graduate of the RNCM, having studying with Darius Battiwalla, earning his BMus(Hons) degree and winning the Alice Shawcroft Prize for Church Music (2005) and the Meadowcroft Exhibition Prize for Organ (2006). He holds the Associate Diploma of the RCO.

At the RNCM, Philip took part in master-classes with Thomas Trotter, Jeremy Filsel, Colm Carey, David Briggs, David Sanger, David Titterington, Jacques van Oortmerssen and Colin Walsh, among others, and also had tuition in Harpsichord from Gary Cooper and David Ledbetter, and on Piano with Jeremy Young. He served as harpsichordist to the School of Vocal Studies Period Performance class, directing a performance of Monteverdi’s Ballo della Ingrate with Philippa Hyde and vocal students in 2006. He was also part of the Education Project, venturing into local Primary Schools to teach piano to complete beginners and over a short ten week course prepare them for a gala performance day in the college. Philip's student won the 'Best Performer and Most Progress Made' prize.

Whilst still a student at the RNCM, Philip held the post of Pilling Trust Organ Scholar at St Ann’s Church, Manchester, from 2003 and was appointed Assistant Organist in July 2006. He regularly performed in the weekly recital series, and continues to make guest appearances from time to time. He worked closely with Ronald Frost and the choir, accompanying services and featuring on two CD recordings of the choir. While at St Ann’s he also performed as a soloist and with the choir for St Ann's Music Society concerts.

From 2006 to July 2008 he was Musical Director of the Debrose Choir, an SSA choir based in Rochdale, with whom he maintained a busy concert schedule. In 2007 they released their first CD recording, now available through the choir's  website.

Philip held close ties with the Taize Community in France, working as a volunteer with the community over the busy summer period and participating in several CD recordings. He was also involved in directing the music for the European Meetings in Paris (2002/3), Hamburg (2003/4), and Milan (2005/6).

In August 2008 Philip married Abi at St George's and they moved to Cambridge to start their new life together, with Molly and Maisie - the cats. As well as his musical interests, Philip enjoys the cinema, walking, change ringing, reading, and whisky (single malt, of course).
